As part of the international recognition, eight protected natural areas of Peru were highlighted in September 2022 in the ‘Top 100 Sustainable Stories in the world’ and now they compete again to be the scene of the best history of tourism at a global level,
What are the protected natural areas that are in competition?
This is the People’s Choice Award of the Green Destinations Story Awards 2023 (Awards for sustainable tourism stories 2023, with public choice). Participants:

*Tingo Maria National Park
*The Tambopata National Reserve
*Bahuaja Sonene National Park

What does the competition organized by Green Destinations value?
This worldwide recognition, organized by Green Destinations, rewards the most sustainable and environmentally friendly tourist places.
“The 44 protected natural areas of the country, which are open to tourism, have favorably recovered their influx of visitors. In 2022 they received more than 2 million 120 thousand visitors, which represent 77.4% of the visitors in 2019,” said Juan Carlos Heaton, head of Tourism at the National Service of Natural Areas Protected by the State (Sernanp).
