Neighbors of Berisso held a camp over the weekend on the district’s public beaches to protest against the ban on night access ordered by the mayor Fabian Cagliardi and also for denounce the privatization of land in a sector of La Balandra.

The protest was organized by the group Vecinos Autoconvocados por el Canal Humedal Urbano Génova (VACHUG), who work in defense of the district’s wetlands. “The beaches are public, join the camp and say no to the privatization of these spaces that belong to everyone”they pointed out in the call made by social networks.

“We do not agree with the taking of arbitrary measures and without popular consultation. Historically our beaches have been a meeting point, areas of fun, recreation and contact with nature. We do not agree that public spaces are ceded to individuals which are ours and for which we pay with our taxes their upkeep”the neighbors declared.

The protesters recalled that camping -as well as access to public beaches after 7:00 p.m.- was prohibited during the Social, Preventive and Mandatory Isolation (ASPO), and that the ban “was not lifted” but “recently ratified by the local commune citing security reasons”.
