New images of jewelry robbery at gunpoint in Hialeah committed by Cuban mother and son

Surveillance video of the violent armed robbery of nearly $800,000 in jewelry carried out by a mother and her son, both of Cuban origin.

The images show how the owner of a beauty salon in Hialeah was putting a suitcase with the jewelry she sold to her clients in her business in the trunk of her car, when she was approached by a hooded man with a gun who, after struggling, and hit the woman, he escaped with the loot.

“When he shot I was terrified and I said ‘he’s going to kill me’ and I dropped the suitcase,” the victim explained in recent statements to Telemundo 51, who after the robbery, which occurred on September 16, was left with traces of the blows. that he received.

Those involved in the case Lourdes Díaz (55 years old) and Julián Flores (24), both residents of Naples, are accused of armed assault charges.

The arrest report revealed that for more than a month Lourdes Díaz frequented the establishment, located in the 7700 block and 28th Avenue in the west of the city, where she gained the trust and became a “friend” of the victim, whom she He asked many questions about the merchandise, but never bought anything from him.

On September 16, the victim was leaving the establishment with a briefcase where he kept the jewelry, when Julián Flores approached him dressed in black, wearing a balaclava and carrying a firearm.

Julián Flores and his mother – who was waiting for him in a vehicle – immediately fled the scene in a Chevrolet Equinox SUV. However, part of the armed robbery was captured on video by local security cameras.

After the robbery, Lourdes Díaz contacted the victim by telephone to tell her that she had found out what had happened and that she was available to provide any type of help.

Investigators were able to determine that the SUV’s license plate had previously been on a Ford SUV that was near the scene of the robbery in the previous days. The Ford SUV had been rented by Díaz at an agency at the Miami Airport.

Added to them is that a publication by Julián Flores on social networks showing off the jewelry he had stolen helped the police find the whereabouts of the young man and later that of his mother.

Police were able to locate the suspect on her cell phone and arrest her on the street. At the time of her arrest they found two bags with jewelry corresponding to what the victim had in her briefcase.

Following the arrest, police recovered jewelry valued at $800,000.

Lourdes Díaz and Julián Flores had no criminal records.
