During the morning of this Thursday, a meeting was held between authorities of the Province and the teaching unions in the Buenos Aires Ministry of Labor in order to start the first conversations to define the first salary increase of 2023. Within this framework, the authorities The provincial authorities presented a proposal that would seem to meet the demands of the teachers, who, however, will give a definitive answer next week.

As confirmed by sources from the portfolio that leads Walter Correa, The Province offered an average 40% increase in teachers’ salaries in three tranches, to be collected in March, May and July.

The percentage offered is thus made up of 40% provincial contributions and another 3.5% national contributions.. In this way, the salary of the simple-time initial grade teacher will go from 115,000 pesos in February to 140,000 in March, then to 150,000 in May and finally to 165,000 from July. The proposal also includes a clause for monitoring inflationary indices, to avoid that the increase in prices is detrimental to teacher salaries.

“The salary proposal made by the provincial State takes the month of February as the calculation base, raising the salary of the Initial Grade Teacher by 43.5 percent in three sections: March, May and July -with an impact on the basic level- so the retired teachers will receive the increase”, they explained in the Buenos Aires Teaching Unity Frontwhich brings together unions such as AMET, FEB, SADOP, SUTEBA and UDOCBA.

The national government, for its part, closed an agreement days ago to increase 33.5% with teachers throughout the country (17.5% in March, 8% in May and another 8% in July) and the elevation from the starting minimum wage to $130,000 as of March. That agreement was a reference for negotiation in the province of Buenos Aires, although the provincial proposal surpassed that of the Nation.

After the offer was put on the table and discussed between both parties, it was agreed to hold a new meeting next Monday, February 27, when the unions will give an answer after having submitted it to the consideration of the teachers they represent.
