Sony is finally launching its virtual reality headset dedicated to the PS5 on February 22, 2023. Among the games available at the launch of the PlayStation VR2, there are some nuggets like Horizon Call Of The Mountain, Gran Turismo 7 VR or Resident Evil Village VR for lovers of horrific thrills. Always in the register of terror, The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR will be released a few weeks later, on March 16, 2023 to be precise.
This shooter will put PS VR2 to good use by pitting you against terrifying enemies who will mess with you on a roller coaster. Vampires, witches and other bloodthirsty killers will stand in your way, ready to do battle. Several paths will be possible which will make your adventure unique.
The Dark Pictures Switchback VR: how will gaze tracking be used?
Everything will be done to promote the immersion of the player (and to mark it as desired). Because in addition to the adaptive triggers of the controllers and the vibrations of the helmet, the game will use eye tracking. Specifically, some enemies will come dangerously close when you blink. Other villains will only move when you look at them. As original as it is terrifying, this part of the gameplay may however put off more than one.
As director Alejandro Arqué Gallardo explains in Edge Magazine, it will take strategy. Crossing a room stuffed with bloody mannequins, our eyelids will irresistibly want to close. “When you open your eyes, the mannequins have been rearranged. Another blink and the thing repeats itself except that one of them has come to life. By replicating this process, we learn to use our eyes strategically to only blink when our weapons are ready.”
As a reminder, more than 100 games are planned for the PS VR2.
