Good news for all PlayStation 5 owners enrolled in Sony’s beta program. The long-awaited 7.00 update is finally available for a handful of users. The final version should arrive by next month for all.

Sony has finally started rolling out the PlayStation 5’s next big system update, version 7.00. Although still in its beta phase, the update includes the long-awaited voice chat feature Discord and variable refresh rate support at 1440p.

The beta version will only be available for a limited number of users in France, United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany and Japan. If you’ve already signed up for the beta, be sure to check your email, as Sony is sending invites with instructions to download it.

PS5 update 7.00: what’s new?

Those who are invited to the beta will have full access to the new Discord voice chat integration. Note that you will first need to sync your PlayStation and Discord accounts in order to grant necessary permissions to the app. Discord support is a very popular user request, especially since Xbox gamers have been enjoying this feature for quite some time now.

Apart from that, there are a number of new social features and improvements in the new system version of the PlayStation 5. Also, VRR in 1440p has been added, good news for those who have a compatible TV. HDMI 2.1.

  • You can now join Discord voice chats on your PS5 console and easily chat with friends on most other gaming platforms.
  • Start or request a screen share from your friend’s profile
  • New Join Game icon in group chats
  • New Thumbnail Friends Playing
  • Manually uploading game captures to the PlayStation app is now possible
  • Support for variable refresh rate (VRR) at 1440p
  • You can now also sort and filter games when adding games to a games list
  • You can now transfer data from your PS5 console, including games, saved data, user profiles, settings, screenshots and videos, to another PS5 console using a Wi-Fi network. -Local Fi or LAN cable.
  • DualSense wireless controller update
  • Voice Command now supports using your voice to record video clips of your gameplay.

Although the final release date of the update has not yet been announced, unofficial reports suggest that it should arrive early March.
