Attacks with acid, corrosive, chemical or flammable substances against women they should be punished with six and up to 15 years in prison, proposes the Labor Party deputy (PT) Ana Laura Bernal Camarena.

With this proposal, the legislator wants the political forces in San Lázaro to approve modifying the Federal penal code to also impose a fine of 500 to a thousand times the daily value of the Unit of Measurement and Update (UMA), in addition to increasing the penalty up to two thirds when it is carried out on a woman for reasons of gender and/or there has been a relationship of kinship or by consanguinity, affinity, civil, marriage, concubinage or a sentimental, affective or trust relationship .

In Mexico there are no official figures, but the Carmen Sanchez Foundation has recorded 28 victims of acid attacks in the past two decades.
