Puerto Rico gets two medals in trio bowling

Puerto Rico gets a silver and bronze medal in the men’s day of trio and all event, in the continuation of the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023.

In the two medals a protagonist is repeated, Cristian Azcona. The multiple Olympic medalist player won silver with his teammates Jorge Rodríguez and David Márquez.

“It feels very brutal. There is nothing equivalent to the Central American and Pan American Games. Reaching the podium for the third time in Games, he feels spectacular. The medal with the boys in a trio, who are new boys in the Games and had never won a medal in their lives, feels even more special to be able to share it with them”, expressed Azcona.

Puerto Rico made a push in the last day of the afternoon to reach the podium with 3,935 clubs. The gold went to Colombia (3,951 clubs) and the bronze to Venezuela (3,910 clubs).

Bowling is bowled for the first time for the all event competition. Therefore, Azcona’s bronze medal is the first for Puerto Rico, thus debuting together with the event in San Salvador 2023.

“The bronze medal in all events, I did not see it coming because it was quite far before starting today (Sunday). I only focused on the trio event with the boys and little by little the sticks fell. Everything was going well, when I found out that certain other players were not doing well, I was able to close quite hard. That medal is a new medal. This is my first time playing this event. It is very special”, added the professional bowler in the United States leagues.

The podium was defined by Gonzalo Hurtado from Mexico (4088), Oscar Rodríguez from Colombia (3990) and Azcona with 3980.
