Qualcomm presents its Snapdragon X75 modem designed to upgrade smartphones to 5G Advanced.

While 5G seems to be having a hard time convincing the general public in France, Qualcomm already wants to take the next step: 5G Advanced. This evolution of 5G must offer more speeds and more intelligence in the management of the network by the operators. The firm therefore presents the Snapdragon X75, the first modem in the world to manage this level of technology.

The next phase of 5G

This is the 6th generation of 5G compatible modem from Qualcomm. When we talk about modem here, the firm is talking about a complete system integrating the modem, the transmitter and the antennas. A turnkey solution for manufacturers.

The Snapdragon X75 notably integrates a chip dedicated to AI (Qualcomm 5G AI Processor Gen 2) capable of multiplying AI performance by 2 compared to the previous generation. Qualcomm uses artificial intelligence to optimize its algorithms around device location and signal processing.

Qualcomm also highlights the ability of its modem to aggregate between 10 mmWave frequency bands and up to 5 bands on sub-6 GHz frequencies. For the latter, the transmitter has been redesigned to reduce manufacturing cost and energy consumption. With all this, Qualcomm promises speeds capable of exceeding 2 Gbit / s in the best conditions.

The Snapdragon Satellite connection will also be there, it’s an approach already unveiled by Qualcomm which should allow Android smartphones to beat Apple’s pawn.

According to the firm, the first devices equipped with this new modem will be marketed before the end of 2023. One can wonder if a future Snapdragon 8 Gen 2+ chip will not put this modem in the spotlight.
