  • Quantron US is unveiling a two-step solution to enable a clean future of mobility with hydrogen at ACT Expo 2023
  • Quantron’s hydrogen fuel cell electric truck (FCEV), currently in development, can achieve ranges unmatched by other clean energy options.
  • A new announcement will also expand Quantron’s per-mile pricing model, which will make it easier for operators to transition to hydrogen fleets.

A bold and growing team of Detroit entrepreneurs is unlocking the future of clean hydrogen mobility. Quantron US will be at the Advanced Clean Transportation Expo in Anaheim, California May 2-4 to showcase its two-step solution that will ease operators’ transition to zero-carbon hydrogen fleets. The company will showcase its hydrogen fuel cell electric truck (FCEV) and outline its plans for Quantron-as-a-Service – a turnkey, all-round service that gives fleet owners access to everything needed to make the transition to hydrogen .

“Technological, social and political forces dictate that zero-carbon mobility is the future,” said Rick Haas, President and CEO of Quantron US. “As these forces increase, fleet operators must ask themselves how to make the transition. Electric vehicles are a good choice only conditionally for commercial industries that transport large volumes of goods over long distances. Weight, range, charging times and sufficient charging infrastructure are all hurdles that fleet operators must consider. Our hydrogen solution overcomes all of these to unlock the future.”

Founded in 2019, Quantron AG is a spin-off from the mobility pioneer Haller GmbH + Co KG. Haller began as a horse-drawn carriage company in 1882 and has been a leader in the mobility revolution ever since. Quantron wasted no time building on this story. In Europe, the company is currently supplying many customers – including IKEA – with battery and hydrogen-powered electric commercial vehicles.

“After achieving some initial success in Europe, we began to consider the tremendous potential for hydrogen fuel solutions in North America,” said Michael Perschke, CEO of Quantron AG. “North American companies rely on heavy cargo loads over long distances Battery technology alone cannot do this reliably, but hydrogen is the key to the future.”

Quantron US builds Class 8 hydrogen fuel cell trucks at its headquarters outside of Detroit. The hydrogen fuel cell trucks eliminate range fears so fleet owners can have the confidence to drive long distances. Upon completion, Quantron expects its trucks to offer a range of approximately 750-850 miles.

Haas started out as a one-person business from his home/business in suburban Detroit in 2022, but that changed shortly after the company’s founding when he signed an agreement to order up to 500 Class 8 hydrogen powered trucks fuel cell electric drive signed. Haas drew on 40 years of experience to recruit a small team of experienced automotive engineering professionals.

Since then, he has had his hands full developing and deploying the first hydrogen-powered truck. Quantron’s truck uses both a fuel cell and a mid-size battery to optimize vehicle performance, gradeability and range. The two energy sources work together to steer the vehicle depending on specific road conditions. In the midst of equipping a Class 8 tractor with its hydrogen fuel cell technology, Quantron is bringing the vehicle to ACT Expo.

“The vehicle will help open people’s eyes to the immense benefits of hydrogen,” added Haas. “But the turnkey service we offer to fleet owners is what really unlocks the future. Quantron has pioneered a path.” to overcome the major cost and infrastructure challenges that severely limit other alternative energy solutions.”

By integrating best-in-class systems into the vehicle and with its full service, Quantron makes it easy and convenient for fleets to start the transition to clean hydrogen. Quantron-as-a-Service offers fleet operators vehicles, fuel and service under a simple per-mile pricing structure. It will announce more details shortly to expand the service.

Quantron will be showcasing the latest stage of its hydrogen fuel cell electric semi-trailer truck at ACT Expo May 2-4 at ACT Expo in the Anaheim, California Convention Center, along with additional information about Quantron-as-a-Service present.
