The first part of the saga of Sea teeth, directed by Steven Spielberg in 1975 and adapted from Peter Benchley’s bestselling novel published in 1974, was a resounding success. Several sequels were born from this triumph, but each of them was less well received by critics and spectators than the previous one. Become a cult film of American horror cinema, Jaws tells the terrifying story of a huge white shark that terrorizes swimmers at a US east coast resort town, causing the local police chief (played by Roy Scheider) to chase him with the help of a marine biologist (played by Richard Dreyfuss) and a professional shark hunter (played by Robert Shaw).

Jawsa great success despite problematic filming

Jaws is therefore a legendary film that did not deserve its place at the box office at the time. But did you know that the shooting was one of the most problematic Steven Spielberg had to do? The mechanical sharks used for the filming only caused technical problems, forcing the director to suggest the presence of the shark on numerous occasions rather than actually showing it on camera. This suggestive effect nevertheless contributed to the success of the film, thanks to the growing anxiety – as well as an unforgettable music composed by John Williams. In addition, the film having been shot outdoors, the climatic conditions were not favorable to the director and many actors and technicians suffered from seasickness. Add to that the arguments between the actors, the retouching of scripts and other technical problems which doubled the initial budget of the film…
