After arduous negotiations, the UOM reached an agreement with the business sector in what represents the second joint negotiation in 2023. On this occasion, it is the steel industry, which closed in a 18.8% in two cumulative tranches that will cover a quarter from April to June.

The pact was reached after a long day at the Ministry of Labor, where the authorities came to analyze the possibility of issuing mandatory conciliation to stop a strike that was going to start if an understanding was not reached.

In this way, the UOM headed by Abel Furlán reached an agreement similar to that of the metallurgical branch that reaches the April-June quarter. The rise will be a tranche of 10% in April on the basic salary for March and another of 8% in May on the salary for April. In this way it will be cumulative and will reach a total of 18.8%.

On the other hand, before expiration on June 30, a new review will be carried out in which the advance of inflation will be evaluated, although they announced that may not be less than 20% increase on basic wages in effect as of March 31.

After parity agreement, how is the salary

As established in a section, the steel companies that comprise the agreement will have the protection of a Minimum Global Income of Reference that was evaluated in $152,664 for April and $164,877 from May.

On the other hand, both parties will have five days from today for eventual corrections due to arithmetic errors or calculation inaccuracies.

The UOM demands an increase of 18% for the April-June period.

The UOM had announced a strike if an agreement was not reached

Now the Ministry of Labor needs to standardize the understanding between the parties.

UOM had headed for unemployment

Prior to the agreement, the UOM had announced a stoppage of activities in the steel sector.

The union had asked for a rise of 18 percent for the April-June period to be settled in two cumulative installments. On the other hand, the businessmen gathered in the Argentine Chamber of Steel propose to comply with that percentage but in three sections.

Faced with this disagreement, the union had declared itself in a state of alert and mobilization and, simultaneously, had established a “cessation of activities for next Thursday, April 13, according to the modality of each steel company.” The Acindar plants in Villa Constitución and Ternium in Ramallo would be the epicenter of the measure of force.
