Andy Muschietti announced the start of filming “Welcome to Derry” (“Welcome To Derry”), the prequel series to “It”, which will premiere in Max the new platform that will change the identity of HBO Máx after the agreement between Warner Bros and Discovery.

The Argentine director with his sister and producer Barbara Muschietti are in charge of this new production, after having made the two films (2017 and 2019) that adapted the story of Stephen King’s novel of the same name. This year, while preparing the premiere of “The Flash”, both are working on the recordings of this fiction also centered on the fictional town (located in Maine, United States) where the horror was unleashed in the form of a clown and who calls himself Pennywise.

The publication that revealed the start of filming.

The series will be temporarily located decades before the events we saw in the films, so marked by the remembered scene of the boat lost by Georgie, the boy with the yellow pilot.

As for the plot, it is very likely that they are new stories with new characters. The truth is that King’s novel still has “a lot of cloth to cut.” If we look closely, the book has around 1,200 pages, where in addition to the story adapted for the screen, it develops other stories that happened in Derry related to the appearance of the creature, which returns in cycles of every 27 years. So the episodes will be able to tell their origin. However, Bill Skarsgård, the actor who played the clown in the films, said that so far they had not called him to participate. So we don’t know if he will be part of the project.

The series has the approval of King himself, who, let’s not forget, has a cameo in Part Two. A few months ago, along with the production announcement statement, he celebrated the project with these words: “I am excited that the story of Derry, the most haunted city in Maine, will continue, and I am glad that Andy Muschietti is going to supervise the terrifying festivities, along with a group of experts that includes her talented sister, Barbara.

At the moment the release date of the series is unknown, but it is estimated that it will arrive on the platform in 2024.
