Paul Würdig (that’s the rapper’s real name) was born in East Berlin, i.e. in the former GDR.
Sido’s past wasn’t easy. At the age of three, his mother kicked his father out, and the musician hasn’t had any contact with him since. He only saw him once more: on his 13th birthday.
“He opened the door for me in his underpants and undershirt and was completely confused,” Sido told BILD years ago. “I was totally disappointed: He didn’t see his son for ten years, and then this. I didn’t feel the need to see him again afterwards.”
Without a father or a male role model, Paul found his way to music. As a young adult, he first tried his hand at rapping in Berlin bars in the late 1990s. With colleague B-Tight, Würdig finally founded the duo “Royal TS”, later “Alles ist die Sekt” (short A.id.S.).
The duo was the first to produce an EP for the cult label “Aggro Berlin”, founded in 2001. The brand, which Fler and Bushido would later join, should form the great springboard for Sido. A probably even bigger catalyst: the chrome-plated skull mask.
For years it should remain the singer’s trademark and shape his image as a frightening and uncompromising gangster rapper. In 2003 Sido also began his solo career, his debut album was called – of course – “Mask”. His second solo album Ich sold 100,000 copies in two days.
Würdig discarded the skull and crossbones over the years. At some point the rapper felt too reduced to his mask and asked himself: “Do you actually think the mask is cool or the guy behind it?” Sido said in an interview with the German Press Agency.

Sido made no secret of his drug past. But a few times Würdig overshot the mark with provocative texts or sentences.
In 2011, Sido trumpeted at “ORF Medienhahn” in Vienna: “You Austrians sent someone over to us who taught us order!” What a slip-up.
At the beginning of 2020, Sido again caused a scandal with a Hitler allusion, this time on the stage of the Austrian posh hotel “Stanglwirt”. He said: “We need a bit of German thoroughness here, which an Austrian taught us”.
Then did Sido also attracted attention with conspiracy theories. In the YouTube format “Ali therapy” by rap buddy Ali Bumaye (38), he spoke of children who “inexplicably disappear and you can’t find them again”.
Marriage to Charlotte Worthy
In 2012, Sido married the former “taff” presenter Charlotte Engelhardt, who henceforth took his name Worthy. The couple have two sons, but Charlotte also suffered two miscarriages.

In 2020, Sido fell into a deep crisis in the corona pandemic and tried to numb himself excessively with drugs. “Everything got out of hand. In the end I was in trouble,” revealed the rapper in an interview with “Spiegel”. His marriage did not survive this low point, 2022 left Sido and Charlotte Würdig divorce.
