Rapper Tory Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting Megan Thee Stallion

Canadian rapper Tory Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was sentenced to 10 years in prison after being found guilty of shooting hip-hop artist Megan Thee Stallion after leaving a party in Los Angeles on the year 2020. This was reported by the news portal NBC News.

Lanez, 31, was found guilty of three counts last December during a trial in which he had pleaded “not guilty”: assault with a semi-automatic firearm, carrying an unregistered firearm with ammunition in a vehicle and reckless shooting.

The sentence was handed down in a hearing that began this Monday and concluded this Tuesday, August 8. According to NBC News, Lanez apologized for his actions and took responsibility for the shooting.

If I could change what I did, I would. But I can not. For everything that happened that night, I take full responsibility. I’m just trying to become a better person“, Lanez said, according to NBC News.

Matthew Barhoma, a member of Lanez’s legal team, said they hope to appeal the sentence and the guilty verdict.

On the other hand, David Herriford, judge of the Superior District Court of Los Angeles, said, during the imposition of the sentence, that “actions have consequences” and that “there were no winners in the case.” Likewise, the judge stressed that it was difficult for him to reconcile the way in which the rapper – who was pointed out as a philanthropist and a committed father – was described with “the person who shot Megan five times.”

District Attorney Alex Bott, who was involved with the prosecution in the case, said Lanez put Megan Thee Stallion (real name Megan Pete) through “two and a half years of hell” after viciously shooting her.

Megan Thee Stallion publicly accused Lanez of shooting her in a video posted on the Instagram platformand assured that the rapper offered him $1,000,000 so that he would not report what happened.

The hip-hop artist alleged that Lanez shot him in the foot after an argument broke out in her car between friend Kelsey Nicole, Peterson, and Peterson’s bodyguard after a night at Kylie Jenner’s house on July 12, 2020.
