A rare super blue moon can be seen in August from Cuba and Floridaaccording to the calendar of the phases of the natural satellite of the Earth for the eighth month of the year.

The blue supermoon can be seen at the end of August, when the moon is for the second time during the same month in the full phase, an extremely rare astronomical spectacle because it last occurred in 2018 and will only be repeated in 2037, according to the POT.

This August 1, the second supermoon of the year will be visible, a phenomenon that occurs when the planet’s natural satellite is at the closest point in its orbit around Earth, at about 357,530 kilometers.

Lovers of this natural phenomenon will be able to appreciate this Tuesday the brighter and larger than normal moon for the second time this year, since last July 3 the first supermoon of the current year was seen.

But it will not be all for this month, because on the night of August 30 the moon will be again in its full phase, at a distance of 357,344 kilometers, so another supermoon can be observed for the third time this year, according to NASA.

This last supermoon is also known as a “blue moon”, a term that has been used since 1940 for the second full moon in a calendar month, although that color will not be visible on the natural satellite.

The last time two supermoons appeared in the sky in the same month was in January 2018, a phenomenon that repeats itself in August 2023, but will not happen again until 2037, according to Italian astronomer Gianluca Masi.

Masi in an interview with the PAassured that this event in which two supermoons coincide with a ‘blue moon’ will not happen again until the year 2037.

On July 3, the first supermoon of 2023 was visible from Cuba and Miami, a phenomenon that is also known as the “deer moon”, because it coincides with the growth season of the ornaments of the males of that species, according to Old Farmer’s Almanac.

On that occasion, Earth’s natural satellite reached its maximum size around 7:39 am ET, but was not visible at that time by sunlight.

To observe this astronomical phenomenon, it is recommended to find a clear place, without much light pollution or buildings that hinder its visualization.

The fourth and last supermoon of 2023 is expected on September 29.

According to NASA, a supermoon is 7% larger and 15% brighter than a full moon.

This phenomenon was described more than 40 years ago by astronomer Richard Nolle, who defined this event as when a full moon is within 90% of its closest point to Earth. Moment known as perigee.

This phenomenon also occurs with the new moon, although it cannot be seen because sunlight is not reflected in that phase, but it is still very close to the planet.

The moon is 384,472 kilometers from Earth, a distance that becomes less with the Supermoon, which becomes much larger and brighter to human sight due to its proximity, although it is still the same size.

In January of this year, the magazine National Geographic He pointed out that if the atmospheric conditions are favorable, the Supermoons of 2023 can be seen as Blood Moons, a phenomenon that occurs when the visible face of these is dyed in a coppery, red or even purple color.

In April 2022, the fourth Supermoon of 2022 was visiblewhich coincided with the beginning of Lent and Holy Week, which is why it was known as Luna Pesaj or Easter.

This Pink Moon phenomenon, as it is also known, was visible from April 15 of that year to the 23rd.

In 2021 the Pink Moon also shone on April 26and Cubans, like many around the world, flooded the networks with photos of the supermoon that lit up their skies on those dates.
