You are currently viewing Real-time group listening session: How Spotify’s Jam works

Spotify improves listening to music together with an additionally introduced feature.

The group describes the functionality of “Jam” as “a personalized, real-time listening session for your group that you can tune into together.”

Shared music playback possible

Users can invite up to 32 friends to join a shared playback. Anyone can add their own songs, which will then be played for everyone. The rollout has already begun worldwide.

The feature also tries to find tracks that all listeners like at the same time. The functionality can be found under the speaker icon at the bottom of the screen.

Spotify Jam: This is how it works

  • Make sure the app is up to date. Premium listeners can start a jam anywhere, and anyone on Spotify can join in.
  • Invite friends or groups – Jam makes it easy to put together the perfect playlist. Jam recognizes common music preferences and makes recommendations that everyone might enjoy. Users can even see which song was added by which person. This means that all listeners always know who to thank when a particular song becomes a crowd favorite – regardless of whether they are cooking together in the kitchen or playing in the garden.
  • After a jam session has started, there is the option to invite a group of friends or family members, regardless of whether you are a free or premium user. Premium users can join from anywhere, whether they are in the same room or anywhere else in the world.
  • To participate, simply select a playlist or favorite song or click on the speaker icon at the bottom of the screen. The three-dot menu in a favorite playlist, album or song also helps to see the “Start Jam” option. A playback device can also be selected, such as the cell phone or the loudspeaker. People on a shared Wi-Fi network at home will also be invited to jam when Spotify is opened.
