Mexico is the fifth largest market for the Reckitt company, after generating 24,656 million pesos, according to company data.
Reckitt inaugurated this Friday a new manufacturing area at its Tlalpan plant, in order to strengthen its supply of Mucinex, a specialized treatment for respiratory diseases.
According to information from Forbes Mexico, 500 million pesos will be invested for the technology, quality and implementation of sanitary measures of the factory; the development plan of the plant was designed in the year 2021.
The company recently celebrated its 60th anniversary in Mexico, for which the managers reported the 50% increase in its production in a new plant to produce the Mucinex drug.
“It was a great opportunity in terms of nearshoring. Mucinex is a brand for the United States. With production here in Mexico we are much closer to the US market, so it made a lot of sense to move production from England to save costs and time,” Marcelo Tobara, director of Reckitt’s Tlalpan plant, said at a press conference.
Likewise, the director of the plant in Tlalpan Reckitt said he is happy for this new growth in Mexico that the British company will have.
“We are very proud of our performance, which in the first months of the year is reflected in the production of more than 90 million units that belong to liquid products such as Luftal, solid products such as Mucinex and Tempra Forte, and powder products such as Picot. This will be possible with the commissioning of two new manufacturing reactors with an automatic cleaning system, a new water distribution system, two upgrades of packaging lines and two other new packaging lines, one for solids and the other for liquids by 2023”, stated Marcelo Tobara.

Mucinex is a combination medicine for cough and runny nose caused by common colds or allergies. According to data from Forbesduring the Covid-19 pandemic, the medicine was very demanding, since thousands of people who tested positive for the virus used the treatment to be able to relieve themselves.
Although for now the spread of Covid has moderated, the sale of Mucinex has increased, as the drug continues to be prescribed by doctors to treat the disease.
It should be noted that the Mucinex drug will not be sold in Mexico, as they will avoid competing with Tempra, which is also used to combat respiratory diseases.
