Red Sox suffer another loss due to injury to a pitcher

BOSTON-. Los Red Sox placed right-hander Nick Pivetta on the 15-day injured list with a right elbow strain, another casualty of an important chip that Boston suffers in a week.

Boston started the season 7-3 and hosted Baltimore on Tuesday in its first home game of the year.

Pivetta (1-1, 0.82 ERA) had made two starts this season, allowing one run and eight hits in 11 innings with 13 strikeouts.

He was scheduled to start the second game of the series on Wednesday. The Red Sox brought up left-hander Brennan Bernardino from Triple-A Worcester to fill Pivetta’s roster spot.

Pivetta’s injury follows shortstop Trevor Story, who is on the 10-day disabled list after dislocating his right shoulder last week in a game against the Angels. Manager Alex Cora reported that Story was going to receive a second medical opinion.

Story was examined Monday, and Cora indicated there is a chance for bone damage. Surgery is not ruled out. With Story ruled out, Cora will alternate players at shortstop and second base.
