There are global impacts that were already happening before the pandemic, such as the semiconductor crisis.

Luis Masse Torres, Vice President of the Mexican Institute of Foreign Trade Executives.

Given the current challenges facing the logistics sector in the country, and with the rise of nearshoring, the need arises to develop regional logistics plans that define the vocations of each federal entity.

According to specialists, within the framework of the presentation of The Logistics World Summit & Expo 2023, nearshoring represents a significant growth in Foreign Direct Investment of more than 13.430 million dollars in the first quarter of 2023, as well as real economic benefits. by avoiding paying importation of goods or shipping costs.

Jesús Campos, managing partner of Corporate Resources Management, considered that one of the issues is not only the space available to receive new companies, but also the requirement of a 20-year national logistics infrastructure plan, that is, in the long term.

“Each state will have its vocation, they have to define them (…) The spaces are not the problem; it is clear legislation, people who can operate and define a vocation. It should lead us to think about a national logistics infrastructure plan for 10-20 years,” he said.

While for Luis Masse Torres, vice president of the Mexican Institute of Foreign Trade Executives, each federal entity must analyze the complexities and logistical advantages they have to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the relocation of companies.

Likewise, he explained that there are global impacts that were already happening before the pandemic, such as the semiconductor crisis, in addition to the isolation and arrest of international logistics chains, global uncertainty due to the trade war between China and the United States, the armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine, and its repercussions, to name a few.

“Entrepreneurs must change the mentality of an exporter. Logistics service providers must take advantage of the tools, some provided at the expo, such as digitization, new normalities in logistics, movement of goods (…) The three levels of government have to promote adequate and optimal conditions for this situation to be truly beneficial,” he said.

Also, he said, it is essential to be constantly updated on changes and advances in the commercial, logistical, legal and technological environments in order not to lose competitiveness; develop risk management strategies for VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous) and BANI (Fragile, Anxious, Non-linear and Incompressible) environments in order to transform said risks into opportunities.

Development

Regarding urban development, Dominique Gómez, network optimization sr. coordinator of PepsiCo, explained that among the challenges that influence the creation of an efficient routing for the supply of merchandise in urban areas, infrastructure, socio-spatial segregation, irregular areas, urban services and security stand out.

“The UN urban agenda seeks to promote sustainable development within cities, taking into account the three spheres that are the economic, social and environmental aspects. For there to be sustainable urban development, it is necessary for the three spheres (companies, government and academia) to dialogue in order to generate adequate public policies, invest in technologies that allow for more sustainable and sustainable logistics ”, he deepened.

According to Laura Fernández, general director of The Logistics World Summit & Expo, the sixth edition will take place from April 26 to 27 at the Citibanamex Center in Mexico City, with an exhibition floor of 32,000 square meters and the participation of more than 400 exhibitors, whose objective is to be the largest benchmark in the logistics sector through three pillars: training, networking and supply.
