FRESNO, California – The Housing Office The City of Fresno announces that it has opened the interest list for those who need rental assistance through the Voucher of Choice program, formerly known as Section 8.

“Anyone who is interested can fill out the preliminary application to get on the interest list,” says the Fresno Housing website.

Interested people can do it online or in person from 10 am on June 15 until July 14 at 5 pm

Section 8 is a program that helps low-income families pay rent by providing vouchers that can be used to rent privately owned housing. On the other hand, the Low Income Public Housing or Affordable Housing program offers units at affordable prices.

The program currently provides vouchers to 13,000 Fresno County families.

HOW TO APPLY?

  • Create an online account at Fresno Housing website. It is available in Spanish.
  • You must then be added to the open interest list for the Housing Voucher Program, or exSection 8.
  • If selected, you will be placed on the waiting list and notified by phone and/or email.
  • Complete the application and submit the documents required by the agency.

Applications are reviewed based on eligibility criteria or “preferences,” which determine the greatest or least need for housing, based on specific criteria and by assigning points.

These criteria are for example if you are an elderly person, if you are a veteran or not, if you have minor children, or if you are a resident of Fresno County.

People who register and meet the requirements will be selected through a lottery draw.

WHAT DOCUMENTS DO I NEED?

  • Photo identification of all adults in the household.
  • Social security card of all household members.
  • Birth certificate of all minors in the family group.
  • Proof of income (pay stubs, support documents, social security, etc.).
  • Contact information for previous owners.
  • Citizenship document if applicable or permanent residence.
  • Military records, if applicable.

Fresno Housing u County Office of Housing owns farmworker housing complexes in Orange Cove, Mendota, Parlier and Fresno. “Legal residents who derive at least half of their income from agricultural-related sources are eligible for housing assistance at these complexes,” the agency’s website states.
