In recent years, Capcom has invested heavily in remakes of the Resident Evil franchise, with emphasis on games 2, 3 and 4. Despite having released a remake for the first game in the saga in 2002, many believe that perhaps it is time to launch a new update for the title, as well as for Code Veronica, a game that complements the main saga and is considered by many to be one of the best Resident Evil ever made.

While Capcom does not announce official remakes for these games, some fans were working on their own versions, but the Japanese studio was not happy about this and decided to stop these projects from being released.

Resident Evil 4 Remake power

It’s been a while since we talked here at TC about a remake made by fans for Resident Evil: Code Veronica, a project that has left many anxious, even more so when we take into account that Capcom itself has confirmed that it has no interest in launching an official remake for the game.

The same team responsible for the Code Veronica remake was also working on a remake of the first Resident Evil, but this week, both projects were blocked by Capcom.

In a publication on their social networks, the independent developers revealed that they were contacted by Capcom and that the owners of the intellectual property of Resident Evil had canceled the projects. In the first announcement, the group’s developer and Discord admin, Briins, briefly said the cancellation was done out of “pure malice,” but a second message shared a day later appeared to provide more context.

The developer said that Capcom reached out to the group and wanted to know more about where the remake’s creators got things like the 3D models and animations used in the remakes. The developers claim that initially Capcom “very kindly” canceled the remakes, followed by a more stern email demanding the project be canceled and the web page for the remake deleted.

Despite being disappointed that they were unable to release the remakes, the developers revealed that they intend to keep their Discord server online and that they will focus on releasing their own original games.

Interestingly, Capcom recently filed a patent for the trademark Resident Evil – Director’s Cut, which made many suspect that the developer might be working on a new official remake of the first game, but as always, we’ll have to wait to find out if the suspicion proceeds.

Could it be that Capcom changed its mind and asked fans to cancel the remakes, as it intends to release official remakes?
