Despite the incredible qualities of Returnal, PC gamers don’t seem to be interested in it and the performances are currently far below the biggest PlayStation boxes.

Will the PC port of the fantastic Returnal flop? If sales do not take off, it unfortunately takes the path.

A complicated start for Returnal PC

As with the other PlayStation exclusives that have landed on PC, we had the right to a small onion port for Returnal. A version more beautiful than ever with the addition of ray tracing and keyboard/mouse optimization to directly affect PC users. However, despite all the efforts of Climax Studio, attendance has so far been very disappointing.

According SteamDB (via VGC), the peak of simultaneous players was only 6,691. Admittedly, it is more than Sackboy A Big Adventure which attracted only 610 people, but it is very far from the tenors of the mark. The biggest games such as God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, and Horizon Zero Dawn topped 50,000 players with 74,000, 66,000, and around 56,000 respectively. As for Days Gone and Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection, they gathered 28,000 and 10,851 players.

To see what Sony’s goals are for Returnal on PC, but on PS5 it was a success with more than 560,000 copies sold during the first two months of launch.

A sequel on PS5?

For the moment, the Housemarque teams are focused on creating a new license, but a Returnal 2 is not ruled out. According to Eevi Korhonen, senior narrative designer, the question of a sequel “it remains to be defined”.
