Ridley Scott responds to comments about film fidelity

Ridley Scott, the director of Napoleon, reacted in a recent interview to comments that his film does not faithfully portray the historical events on which it is based.

In interview Vulture, Scott commented on the dilemmas involved in producing a peak film like Napoleoand the inevitable criticism that arises when the theme of historical fidelity in cinematographic adaptations.

Everyone has an opinion about what really happened, and I always ask: Were you there? Scott said. There are 10,000 books about Napoleon, and they are full of truth and conjecture. But I left reading the books to the poor guy who had to write the script.
