Due to the rapidly increasing energy costs, many medical facilities are threatened with financial ruin if they do not find a solution to the problem in a timely manner. However, many of them lack the necessary staff to care for more patients and thus maximize their income – improvement is not in sight due to the lack of applications.

“It has never been more important to find qualified personnel – now a rethinking in the personnel department is necessary in order not to be on the brink of collapse,” says Dirk Bachmann. The recruiting professional brings healthcare professionals together with medical institutions in a targeted manner and therefore knows the most effective ways to attract attention as a clinic. In the following article, he reveals how medical facilities can quickly and reliably expand their team with qualified specialists and thus increase their income.

High energy costs threaten rehabilitation clinics

The average German rehabilitation clinic has 250 beds – and is currently recording losses in the six-digit range. The reason for this is the sharp rise in energy costs as a result of the war against Ukraine. Increasingly, clinics that maintain swimming and therapy pools, for example, find themselves forced to stop such and similar costly measures. Another burden is the expenses for the ongoing hygiene and infection protection measures.

One thing is clear: hospitals and clinics are only able to treat patients properly if they have enough specialists at their disposal. In order to ensure an operation that not only helps the patient but is also economical, each bed must be operated by a sufficient number of specialists. The following therefore presents three tips for recruiting staff that can help to close the cost gap caused by the energy crisis.

1. Increase attractiveness as an employer

An important measure for retaining existing specialist staff and recruiting new ones is to increase your own attractiveness as an employer. It makes sense to ask existing employees about their needs and wishes. What requirements must be met in order for them to stay in the company? What are they lacking? Salary adjustments may need to be made as a result of such surveys. Employees often complain about a lack of appreciation.

2. Recruitment of qualified professionals

The healthcare system has lost many skilled workers in recent years. They are turning their backs on the industry mainly because of poor working conditions, such as low pay and a lack of recognition. As part of their recruiting, hospitals and clinics are therefore well advised to contact former employees and to keep them informed about any innovations in everyday work. There is great potential for acquiring new “old” employees in this way.

3. Engage professionals with healthcare expertise

Recruitment agencies specializing in the healthcare sector know what is important in this field and where suitable specialists can be found. They maintain online and offline networks in third countries – for example via social media, but also via classic recommendation management. They advertise to the professionals there for a job in the health care system in Germany. Another advantage is that the recruiters are in very close contact with the applicants and thus only place particularly promising candidates with the clinics.
