Bottrop.
The speed limit remains a permanent topic in Bottrop. Green wave or brake block? That’s what a driver thinks, that’s what the city administration says.

Opinions have been divided on the speed limit of 50 kilometers per hour for noise protection reasons on Kirchhellener Straße for the past year and a half. Now a driver who has contacted the editors is annoyed by the traffic light.

If drivers had previously had the chance to get a few green phases at 50 km/h, this is impossible today. At the reduced speed, there would be no flow of traffic. This “miserable circuit”, as he writes, begins at the main fire station. The traffic lights belong to the streets of NRW, which in this case are responsible for road construction.

The city of Bottrop is responsible for the circuit. When asked by the WAZ, the responsible press office responded to the motorist’s accusation as follows: “The traffic lights and thus also the green wave on Kirchhellener Strasse were adjusted due to the changed maximum speed there. As far as the flow of traffic on Kirchhellener Straße is concerned, the description cannot be confirmed. During inspections, a functioning flow of traffic was found here.”

Bottrop drivers are annoyed: “Today this traffic light is red.”

The driver practices further criticism of the traffic light switch. If you turn right from the Nordring onto Kirchhellener Straße and then turn left onto Lindhorststraße in the direction of Fuhlenbrock, you used to have a green wave, says the driver. A reasonable flow of traffic was then possible. “Today this traffic light is red.”

The municipal press office can confirm his comment about turning from Nordring onto Kirchhellener Strasse and then onto Lindhorststrasse. According to the city, this circuit from the past could not be maintained. “However, this is the norm when it’s new, because when you turn onto a main road, you usually always have to stop at the next traffic light.”
