Robbery and assault of a woman in front of a church in Queens

A 68-year-old woman remains hospitalized after police say she was assaulted and robbed on the steps of a church in Queens.

The uniformed officer indicated that the robbery occurred when the woman was heading to Sunday morning mass at Saint Demetrios Church in Jamaica.

Footage shows the attacker running up the stairs in front of the woman and then pushing her down.

He took $300 in cash, a credit card and her keys.

On the screen we can see the person wanted by law enforcement.

Konstantinos Kalogridis, the church’s presiding priest, visited the woman in the hospital on Sunday night.

In this regard, he said that the event is “heartbreaking,” but that after speaking with her and seeing that she is recovering, he indicated that “it is a sign of hope.”

The priest tells us that there will be a police presence in the church until further notice.

The investigation is ongoing.
