Mexico City.- The coordinator of Morena in the Senate, Ricardo Monreal, ruled out giving fast track to the laws that are still pending review in the Upper House and that complete the so-called electoral “Plan B”.

Before the Secretary of the Interior, Adán Augusto López, the Morenista coordinator recalled that no procedures have been waived in the Senate.

Monreal reported that within the group there were two opinions: to dispense with all the paperwork and approve the draft to send it to the Executive and another, so that the president, Alejandro Armenta, turns it over to commissions and that in the commissions they decide the rhythm that will be must give this minute.

“Our tradition is that we have never dispensed with procedures, we have always faced broad deliberation because we should not be afraid of deliberation and the reasons that assist us when they exist.

“That is why I believe that we must deliberate and give way to the opinion of senators and senators and once the ruling commissions consider that it should be sent to the plenary, conclude the process, not precipitate a discussion that is so important for the life of the Country, for the strength democracy of the Nation,” he stated.

Morena wants to consummate electoral Plan B

The Morena bench in the Senate and its allies will push without any problem the package of electoral laws of “Plan B” that last year was pending approval with the controversial matter that confers “eternal life” to the parties with the recourse of the vote transfer.

Yesterday, Senator Eduardo Ramírez de Morena assured that the package will finally be approved next Thursday, during the second session of the ordinary period that opens on Wednesday, February 1.

“That is a commitment that was assumed with the President in the National Palace: he said that he was going to return to the Senate and he would be removed,” promised the legislator from Chiapas.

On the immediate horizon, there is no stumbling block for Morena on the understanding that a simple majority is required in plenary for the senators to validate the bill that the deputies approved at the end of the year.

“The Chamber of Deputies has already composed it and now we need to confirm it,” added the Morenista Ramírez Aguilar.

As the deputies proceeded -at the request of President López Obrador-, the senators will eliminate the resource of “eternal life” that has favored the Green Ecologist and Labor parties, which would open the door for the promulgation of the controversial “Plan B” that would dismantle the National Electoral Institute (INE).

The electoral Plan B package contemplates the merger of general directorates in the INE and the elimination of officials in the 300 district electoral boards, among other measures.

Last Friday, Senator Ricardo Monreal, head of the bench, explained that if the transfer of votes were prohibited, “then the entire package goes with the Executive, including that article.”
