Russia announces the downing of a Ukrainian drone in the south of Moscow

Russia, Aug 6 (EFE).- The Russian military today shot down an allegedly Ukrainian drone south of Moscow that was heading to the city, according to the mayor of the Russian capital, Sergei Sobyanin.

“Today around 11:00 (8:00 GMT) an attempted attack by a drone in Moscow was thwarted. It was destroyed by the anti-aircraft force as it approached. Good for the military,” he wrote on Telegram.

The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed this information, noting that the drone was shot down in the Podolsk district, less than 20 kilometers south of Moscow.

“At 11:27 a.m., an attempt by the Kiev regime to carry out a terrorist attack with an unmanned aerial craft against targets in the Moscow region was aborted,” Defense said, denying damage or casualties as a result of the shootdown.

Ukraine has attacked buildings in Moskva City, the financial heart of Moscow, with aerial drones in recent weeks, without causing major damage.

The Kremlin and the Russian Ministry of Defense have recognized that the threat to the country’s security is real, for which reason they advanced the adoption of additional security measures.EFE
