Russia fines Apple for the first time for "false news" about the war in Ukraine

Moscow.- a court of Moscow today fined 4 million rubles (42,717 dollars) to the company american computing apple, the first sanction of its kind against this company, for failing to remove “false information” about the Russian military campaign in Ukraine.

As explained by Justice of the Peace Timur Vajraméyev who imposed this administrative sanction on the computer giant, the fine was “the least possible” based on “the arguments presented before the court” by the defense, although he defended that there were sufficient reasons to rule against from Apple.

The court found that the company did not take measures to remove applications and podcasts that contained false news about the war in Ukraine, as well as information “aimed at the involvement of minors in illegal actions in order to destabilize the political situation in Russia.” .

Apple’s defense requested that the session be held behind closed doors to prevent the dissemination of trade secrets, a demand that was partially satisfied, by removing the media from the room.

After the start of the war in Ukraine, Russia has imposed large fines on the main foreign computer companies, including Google, Facebook -banned in Russia-, Twitter, TikTok and Wikimedia.
