Mexico City.- David León, a former federal official involved in video scandals for the delivery of cash in envelopes to two brothers of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, reappeared in the state of Michoacán.
The government of the morenista Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla released a statement on Wednesday about a supervision tour in the rehabilitation work of a road section of the Siglo XXI highway, affected by a sinkhole, registered since 2021.
In the official report of the Michoacan government, reference is made to David León as “responsible for the federal concessionaire of the Siglo XXI Highway.”
The former official appears in photographs and in a video together with the Morenista Governor and other local public servants.
“I am here with David León, who is responsible for the Autopista Siglo XXI, of the federal concessionaire, who has also accompanied us in dialogue with the SCT, with whom we are making progress to improve,” said Ramírez Bedolla.
“Thank you very much Governor, it is an honor to receive you here. In the concessionaire team we are working very gratefully with you and with the impulse that you are giving us,” replied León.
Since June 2022, some local media in Michoacán have referred to León’s participation in work meetings with state government officials, related to the communications and transportation sector.
In August 2020, a video was revealed showing David León delivering envelopes with cash to the President’s brother, Pío López Obrador.
The images would have been recorded in 2015, in the state of Chiapas, where David worked as an external adviser to the Government of Manuel Velasco, today a PVEM senator.
In 2020, after the video was broadcast, León –who was then working as the National Civil Protection Coordinator– put his career in public service on hold.
The former federal official then announced that he would not assume the appointment that the President had given him to be the new head of Birmex, the Mexican State pharmaceutical company.
In July 2021, another video was released, in which León could be seen delivering money to Martín Jesús López Obrador, another brother of the President.
During these years, David León has had to testify before the FGR, in investigations related to the delivery of money to relatives of the President.
