Russia increases its exports by 60% in July after renouncing the grain agreement

Moscow.- Russia has increased by 60% cereal exports in July compared to the same month in 2022, coinciding with the Kremlin’s resignation from the grain agreements.

Grain exports amounted to 5.68 million tons, as reported by Yelena Tiúrina, director of the analysis department of the Russian Grain Union, to the official RIA Nóvosti news agency.

Of this volume, 4.54 million tons corresponded to wheat, which represents an increase of 50%, the source specified.

The main client of the Russian grain has been Saudi Arabia with 578,000 tons, followed by Turkey, 518,000 tons; Egypt, 467,000 tons, and Israel, 345,000.

As for developing countries, Bangladesh imported 222,000 tons; Tanzania, 94,000 tons, and Sudan, 68,000.

«New buyers of Russian wheat are the countries of Latin America. For example, Brazil received 62,000 tons and Peru, 49,000 tons. Last year Brazil and Peru did not buy our wheat,” he explained.

A total of 33 countries received wheat shipments this month, seven countries more than a year ago.

The Russian Grain Union estimates the export potential of this country at 55-57 million tons of grain, which includes 48-49 tons of cereal.

According to Tiúrina estimates, corn exports also increased by 40% (319,400 tons) and barley by 160% to 822,000 tons.

For this reason, the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, assures that Russia can replace Ukraine as the world’s supplier of grain, arguing that it produces much more grain than its neighbor.

Last week during the Africa-Russia summit Putin promised to help six countries on the continent Burkina Faso, Zimbabwe, Mali, Somalia, the Central African Republic (CAR) and Eritrea with free grain shipments, although the UN Secretary General, António Guterres , already assured that said measure will only cause a new rise in prices.

Putin recalled that Moscow has sent almost 10 million tons to Africa this year, including 9 million tons of wheat, which demonstrates its solidity as the continent’s granary.

However, during the plenary session, the Egyptian president, Abdelfatah al Sisi, urged “urgently” to reach a solution to the problem of food supply “to the countries most in need.”

Ukraine admitted that last week Russian attacks on Black Sea port terminals destroyed 180,000 tons of grain destined for export.
