Borussia Dortmund surprisingly bagged Julian Ryerson’s commitment two days ago. That also includes those responsible at Union Berlin, the previous club of the 25-year-old Norwegian, as coach Urs Fischer revealed at today’s Bundesliga press conference.
“I congratulate Dortmund. They brought in a good full-back who can also be used in other positions.”the 56-year-old introduced, before admitting: “We were caught on the wrong foot. We don’t like that at all, but that’s the way of business.” Since Ryerson switched to BVB with an exit clause of more than five million euros, the irons were powerless.
“We were all surprised”
Fischer stated: “We were all surprised. Oliver Ruhnert (Managing Director Sport, editor’s note) informed me, but first asked if I was sitting. When I said I was sitting, he broke the news to me. We were really surprised.”
Now the Irons are looking for a replacement for Ryerson, as the trainer confirms: “We will certainly try to replace Julian. But it won’t be a rush job. We have to be convinced.” This also means that the signing of Jérôme Roussillon (30/VfL Wolfsburg), which Union announced last week, was not an anticipation of Ryerson’s departure.
