It’s the end of Salto, the French subscription video-on-demand service. Just over two years after its release, the French Netflix is a complete fiasco. It will be placed in compulsory liquidation in the coming days.
Launched in October 2020 by TF1, M6 and France Télévisions, Salto was Netflix’s French competitor. The end time has come for the subscription video-on-demand service, however. As Le Figaro reported, the dissolution of Salto will be recorded in the coming days during a general meeting.
Salto’s end clap is fast approaching a little more than two years after its launch. Having failed to find a potential buyer to take over the company, Salto will be placed in compulsory liquidation in the coming days.
Salto did not find a buyer, its dissolution was inevitable
Salto’s dissolution was considered in January on the occasion of an extraordinary central social and economic committee (CSE) at France Télévisions. As Antoine Chuzeville who is the SNJ union representative at the central CSE had stated, “ the dissolution is not recorded, if it is it will not be before the authorities of France Télévisions but before those of Salto “. The dissolution of the platform was inevitable without a buyer. Antoine Chuzeville had himself confirmed that: “ if there is no buyer in the days or weeks to come, it will be the dissolution “.
Following the withdrawal of TF1 and M6 from Salto at the end of 2022, the future of the SVOD service was uncertain. It is therefore a fiasco for the French Netflix. It will have survived for a little over two years before having to close its doors for good. The management of Salo will also be entrusted to a legal representative until it goes out of business.
As it concerns the forty employees who work at Salto, those who were already at TF1, M6 or France Télévisions will be taken over by the original company. The other employees who have been directly recruited by Salto will be offered a position with one of the three French groups.
