At last Saturday’s Night of Champions, Sami Zayn competed for the first time in Saudi Arabia since 2014, this being his first Premium Live Event where he competed in the country.

Having Syrian ancestry and with everything that goes on between the two countries, the presence of the “Great Liberator” at the event was much talked about by both fans and journalists.

In an interview with After The Bell, Sami Zayn spoke about his presence at Night of Champions and how he feels like a natural representative of this type of event.

It was a very heavy trip, to be honest. The fact that I haven’t been there for a few years and there’s been so much speculation about why I didn’t go there, about the political reasons and this and that.

I’m not going to go into all of that, but I’ll tell you that 99.9% of what you’ve read on the Internet about this topic is completely fabricated… people assume things and then follow those assumptions and add to them. It’s crazy.

Whenever you can’t get concrete answers, that’s more or less what tends to happen. It’s almost human nature.

The event itself, and the audience’s reception, is more or less what I’ve been waiting for, in a way, for some time. I would have been the natural fit for those shows, but I wasn’t. It was nice to finally be put in that position.

Do you think Sami Zayn will continue to be able to participate in events in Saudi Arabia?
