36-year-old Oscar-nominated actor Elliot Page has spoken about the relationship in his new book Pageboy, which is due to be released next week.
“The first person I fell in love with after getting my heart broken was Kate Mara. She had a boyfriend at the time, the charming and talented Max Minghella ”, she has written in the book (through an excerpt shared by People magazine).
The relationship was a secret from everyone at the time, except Kate Mara’s boyfriend at the time, Max Minghella. Elliot says in the book that Max was supportive of the relationship. and that Kate told her, “I never thought I could be in love with two people and now I know I can.”

She also adds: “This was right after I came out as a lesbian in 2014 (when I was still Ellen Page) and it was a moment of exploration and also of anguish”. I think my relationship, or whatever you want to call it with Kate, pretty much sums up a certain dynamic that I constantly found myself in, which was falling in love with people who, I think a lot of us do this, who aren’t completely available. There’s some kind of security in that, ups and downs and serotonin hit then wears off. And I think it’s definitely a pattern in my life.”
Elliot and Kate are still friends and she has already read the book. She will even join Elliot at a launch event for him in Los Angeles.
“I think the love and care we have for each other is something very special.. Separated from the intimacy I write about, that’s past,” Elliot said.
Elliot and Kate played a couple in the movie My Days of Mercy, which premiered at TIFF in 2017 and was released in 2019. The movie was apparently made after their secret relationship.
