After the Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip, Samsung could launch the Tri-Fold range. A patent filed by the South Korean giant actually reveals a foldable smartphone with two hinges which therefore folds in three.
While all eyes are on the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 expected this summer, Samsung may have prepared an even bigger surprise. The leading South Korean manufacturer in the field of foldable smartphones is preparing a new range that is more impressive than the Fold and Flip. The Samsung Galaxy Tri-Fold could soon become a reality.
As its name suggests, the Tri-Fold would be a three-part foldable smartphone or tablet. The device of gigantic size once unfolded would therefore be equipped with two hinges. A patent filed by Samsung actually shows a device capable of folding in on itself in three parts.

Samsung’s patent published by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) therefore details a smartphone with a zigzag shape. The two hinges that fold the screen in two separate places allow you to fold the device into three equal parts. Therefore, you will be able to have in your pocket a device as compact as a smartphone, but which becomes as big as a tablet by unfolding it three times.
Additionally, the patent is titled “ how to use a screen according to its folded state and an electronic device using it “. The document then details that sensors integrated in the hinge and the screen detect how bent the device is. They can thus adjust the display of the screen. If the device is completely folded, it works like a smartphone. Fully unfolded, it looks more like a tablet. We can also imagine that it is possible to fold it only once before having a screen of intermediate size.
Samsung Display has already presented multiple foldable screen technologies. Already in 2021, Samsung was showing screens capable of folding in two places. The following year, Samsung Display showed off more displays at CES 2022 that bend multiple times. After the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 which were recently unveiled in images, it would not be surprising if Samsung launched a device with two hinges. It is nicknamed Tri-Fold For now.
