San Salvador 2023: Ayden Owens achieves gold medal in decathlon

Puerto Rican Ayden Owens won the decathlon gold medal on Wednesday at the San Salvador 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games.

Owens finished the event with a total of 8,671 points

Meanwhile, Puerto Rican Yariel Soto won the last event of the 1,500 meter decathlon and got the bronze medal.

Earlier, the Barranquiteño Héctor Pagán bathed the track of the National State Jorge El Mágico González with gold.

The Puerto Rican dominated the test in the last 300 meters with a time of 14:07.17. This one was taking off from his rivals Diego García from Mexico (14: 11.12) and the Colombian Carlos Sanmartín (14: 14.08).

“I am very excited. I dreamed of being here. I arrived. I did the job. Really, I am very happy that all things have gone well for me. This is thanks to a work team that I have and to my people of Barranquitas who always support me, they must be enjoying it. How good to bring joy to the people as they give it to me! Said the hero champion in the Interuniversity Athletic League and the Cali 2021 Junior Pan American Games.

Pagán will return to the track to run the 10,000 meter event on Friday at 7:30 pm (5:30 pm El Salvador).

OTHER FINALISTS

Gabriella Scott advanced to the final of the 400 meters with a time of 51.24 seconds. This final will be on Thursday at 9:30 pm (7:30 pm El Salvador).

800 meter specialist Ryan Sánchez advanced to the final of his event with the second fastest time of heat two. This was 1:47.65. The final will be this Wednesday at 8:10 pm (6:10 pm El Salvador).
