Former President Donald Trump has strongly criticized the current U.S. government and blamed it for the situation in Venezuela, saying that “sanctions on Maduro should never have been lifted.”

“Crazy Kamala Harris should never have lifted Trump’s oil sanctions on Maduro,” she said in a post on her social network Truth Social.

For the Republican candidate for the November presidential election “She made one of the worst offers ever! Crazy Kamala helped lead the charge to free Maduro’s top money launderer and his two convicted drug-dealing nephews in exchange for an obviously false promise of free and fair elections for the people of Venezuela“, he said.

Donald Trump’s post

“They were not free and fair! Look what’s happening now: Maduro sold his oil, met with his money laundering and drug dealing nephews, and the Venezuelan people have nothing,” Trump lamented.

He said that now “Venezuela is destroyed and its wonderful people are bankrupt and dying.”

During his term, Trump imposed severe sanctions on the regime of Nicolás Maduro. Recently, the US government eased these sanctions, allowing Venezuela to freely sell its oil in exchange for fair elections.

The relaxation of these measures was not lifted even when the Chavistas challenged the candidacy of opposition candidate María Corina Machado, which already indicated that the electoral process would not be as fair as intended.

The political climate in Venezuela has become more tense following the proclamation of Nicolás Maduro as winner of the presidential electiona decision strongly rejected by the opposition.

On July 29, the National Electoral Council, a Chavista authority, announced Maduro’s reelection, a result that immediately sparked protests and rejection from the opposition and a significant part of the population.

Meanwhile, opposition leader María Corina Machado spoke at a press conference and stated that the real winner was Edmundo González: “We have proof of the truth.”

The opposition’s count shows that Nicolás Maduro received 2,759,256 votes, while González obtained 6,275,182 votes, with the added benefit of winning in all the states that make up the South American nation.
