The Duchess of York says “not really” disappointed not to have been invited to the coronation of her ex-brother-in-law, and assures that she is still close to the king and queen.
Sarah Ferguson, the ex-wife of Prince Andrew, the brother of King Charles III, is not disappointed not to have been invited to the coronation, she explained this Thursday on the set of the show Good Morning Britain.
The Duchess of York says “not really” disappointed by this exclusion. “You can’t have it all,” she says. “You can’t stay neutral. Either you’re part (of the royal family) or you’re not. There’s no point in dithering.”
“I’m divorced and I love being divorced from my ex-husband and I love this new career as a novelist that I have,” adds Sarah Ferguson, who divorced Andrew in 1996 and published an account last year titled A Most Intriguing Lady.
“It’s nice to be part of this family”
Sarah Ferguson, 63, says she is still close to Charles and Camilla, whom she continues to see from time to time. “Just because I’m not here for this ceremony doesn’t mean I’m not here in private.”
“It’s nice to be part of this family. It really is,” she adds, praising the way the king and queen have managed to “unite the family”. “They did an exceptional job,” she insists.
Despite their divorce, Sarah Ferguson still lives with her ex-husband Andrew at the Royal Lodge, a sumptuous residence from which King Charles would like to dislodge them to install them at Frogmore Cottage, previously fallen to Harry and Meghan. The Duchess of York is also the guardian of the Queen’s corgis.
The BBC revealed earlier this week that Sarah Ferguson would not be present at the coronation on May 6. The full list has not been released.
Several political leaders, such as Emmanuel Macron. Prince Harry will also make the trip, but without his wife Meghan Markle. Due to the relative modesty of this coronation – “only” 2000 people will attend the coronation at Westminster – many people had to be kept out. Charles III thus apologized for not having invited Pamela Hicks, cousin of Prince Philip.
