In view of the higher cost of living in Vorarlberg, the Education Councilor is calling for an adjustment to the salary law.
Education officer Barbara Schöbi-Fink welcomes the demands of governor Markus Wallner regarding a purchasing power compensation for the Vorarlberg police. However, it supplements the demand towards the federal government with regard to the salary of local teachers. The salary of educators is standardized throughout Austria by the federal government.
“In discussions with the federal government about the personnel situation in the schools, we repeatedly pointed out the living conditions in the high-priced region of Vorarlberg and the need to adjust salaries,” says Schöbi-Fink.
In competition with Switzerland
Appropriate adaptations of the law are necessary for the Education Minister. She also points to the competitive situation with neighboring Switzerland and Liechtenstein, which makes it more difficult to keep qualified teaching staff in the country.
Country is fighting for teachers
The state of Vorarlberg, together with the education department for Vorarlberg, has been in a very challenging personnel situation, especially in recent years. That is why, among other things, the “School Workplace” project was installed. The first successes are already visible, says Schöbi-Fink.
Nevertheless, an adjustment of the salary law for the Vorarlberg educators is needed.
