the second heating cost subsidy was decided by the federal governmentto relieve citizens in Germany financially. The money comes at just the right time as many people are concerned about the rise in energy prices. A survey by the polling institute Yougov showed that 68 percent of Germans heat significantly less than last winter. But who receives the heating subsidy?
Second heating subsidy decided: who gets it
low-income people are particularly hard hit by high energy prices. Therefore the federal government decided on a second heating cost subsidy for around 2 million citizens – around 660,000 households with housing benefitin which around 1.5 million people live.
The one-time payment helps families and single parents, senior citizens with low incomes or pensions. The second heating cost subsidy is also good 553,000 students and trainees with BAföG, people in advanced training and trainees with vocational training grants or training allowances.
However, these groups of people only receive the subsidy if they receive housing benefit or another state subsidy at least once in the months September 1 to December 31, 2022 have received.
Do I have to apply for the grant and when will it be paid out?
The grant does not have to be requested. It will be automatically deposited into the account. The aim was for the money to be paid out by the end of 2022. However, the payouts may differ depending on the state postpone until early February.

For housing benefit households, the one-off heating cost subsidy is – graduated according to the number of people at one One-person household 415 euros, two-person household 540 euros, and 100 euros for each additional person.
beneficiaries Apprentices, pupils and students each receive a heating allowance of 345 euros.
