In his opening speech at the 9th International Security Policy Congress on Lake Constance in Bregenz, State Councilor Christian Gantner emphasized that functioning security cooperation in the Lake Constance area has been practice for many years.
Accordingly, security tasks require state, regional and national action, which should be managed in good cooperation. State Councilor Gantner emphasized the importance of security, protection and help as indispensable human goods and referred to the essential principles of the state security strategy.
Future Aspects of European Security and Defense Policy
He also addressed the multiple challenges of today, particularly those related to hybrid security threats. The motto of this year’s congress was “Future Aspects of European Security and Defense Policy”.

The main focus was on the topic of “information as a weapon” and the peculiarities of the media landscape in DA-CH, the effects of information and disinformation as well as defensive measures to protect society and security policy interests. Landesrat Gantner spoke out in favor of actively preventing information-psychological threats and supporting the population in resilience and protecting them from such machinations.

Around 120 participants
The Lake Constance Congress has proven itself as a forum for security policy communication with specialist presentations and a wide range of opportunities for discussion. Around 120 participants from security policy clubs and organizations from Germany, Switzerland and Austria took part. Provincial Councilor Gantner congratulated the Society for National Defense and Security Policy in Vorarlberg and the Officers’ Society Vorarlberg on the successful organization of the congress and thanked all those involved and participants for their commitment to security policy across state and national borders.
