If you’re on the team that doesn’t understand how it’s possible to maintain a skin care routine with various products and processes, applied morning and night, every single day, you can rest in peace: you’re not alone. And you don’t even have to suffer thinking you don’t take care of yourself very well. That trend known as skincare Korean, with more than a dozen steps and pots that fill the bathroom counter, seems to be increasingly distant from being put into practice, at least for more and more people.

“Many patients arrive at the office and immediately tell them that they don’t want to be applying cream all the time, because they don’t have time and end up throwing everything away. They are busy people who want something simpler and, at the same time, efficient”, says Renata of Ávilaa dermatologist focused on natural beauty.

Skincare minimalist

Recently, even the WGSN trends platform noticed a growing movement in search of more uncomplicated care, called skinimalism, which is nothing more than choosing a few good products. For the cosmetic industry (always superlative in the offer of products), this change can even be another niche for new launches. It doesn’t matter.

What is interesting is this perception that we do not need to spend a lot of money on products, have a thousand doubts when using them and throw part of the “collection” in the trash when the expiration date expires. Not to mention the environmental issue that involves, among other problems, the impact of manufacturing these products and discarding the packaging – a sea of plastic.

Yes, taking care of the skin can be something more peaceful. And it’s no wonder that the concept of minimalism has appeared more in this universe of well-being. The idea here is to reduce consumption to what is strictly necessary, to the essentials, in the name of conscious simplicity, which seeks balanced self-care, without exaggeration.

“Imagine the routine of a mother in the postpartum period or a young woman in college… in short, most women today. The routine needs to be practical, and the skincare minimalist is this: practicality”, says the dermatologist who defends cosmetics clean with phytobotanist Patricia Silveira, who runs the clinic Derma Green.

Step One: Make Good Choices

It all starts with product selection. “To be good, it needs to have good ingredients, more natural, without harmful components for our health. health and the planet”, reinforces Patricia. Afterwards, it’s worth taking advantage of the multifunctionality of some items to reduce the shopping list. “It is possible to choose a body cream that can also be a hand moisturizer or a balm lip balm that still works for the eye area”, explains the dermatologist.

Consult a dermatologist to help you

In addition, it is recommended to enlist the help of a professional in the field, especially if you are starting to think about the subject or want to transform skin care. “The ideal is always to consult a dermatologist. You can’t forget that the skin is the largest organ in the human body, and taking care of it prevents diseases and helps maintain health”, reinforces Renata.

According to her, consulting a specialist also allows for customized solutions, such as creams with multifunctions that are manipulated specifically for each patient. In addition, “exaggerating in products and treatments can lead to cosmetic acne, which causes a ’tilt’ in the skin, a reaction caused by excess creams or by bad ingredients that generate very dilated pores, irritation, redness, allergies, etc.”, Complete Renata.

just the essentials

Adopting a simplified skin care routine means thinking about the basic processes to be carried out in the morning and at night. “In the morning, if you slept with clean skin, you don’t need to wash it. Just tone up, moisturize (if skin is dry) and apply a sunscreen”, suggests Patricia. Renata, on the other hand, recommends using a cleansing soap, a moisturizer or serum and the product with photoprotection.

“It’s always good to reapply sunscreen at lunchtime,” she points out. At night, care focuses more on cleaning the skin (which has sweated, been exposed to the sun, pollution and makeup) and hydration. “Cleaning can be done in two steps. Before the bath, a micellar water or a cleaning oil help to

remove makeup. Afterwards, a soap with an exfoliating particle cleans and removes dead cells”, says Patricia. Next, she advises using a tonic, which can be a blend of hydrolates and plant extracts, and a good moisturizer.

night care

For those who wish, at night it is also possible to add a treatment cream after hydration. “This will depend on what each person seeks and needs. It could be an anti-acne cream, a blemish-smoothing product, or a anti age, for example”, comments Renata. In summary, three steps made with good products are enough to have healthy skin. The most important thing is to maintain constancy to create, in fact, a routine of skincare.

Influence of healthy habits

It’s worth remembering that taking care of the skin is just one part of a broader self-care. According to Patricia, it’s no use using great products and maintaining a diet full of ultra-processed foods or not sleeping well. “The skin is the tip of the iceberg. Without this harmony with food and other healthy habits, no treatment will be consistent, intelligent and sustainable”, she ponders.

Renata adds: the skin is a reflection of our lifestyle. “It is a thermometer of our health and, therefore, we need a 360-degree view, which assesses micronutrient deficiencies, physical activity, sleep, type of food and so on”. Finally, the lesson is: the better your skin is treated from the inside out, the simpler, more potent and efficient your skincare minimalist.
