Before the media in the Senate of the Republic, the head of the Ministry of the Interior (Segob), Adam Augusto Lopez declared that the reform that seeks to modify the powers of the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judiciary (TEPJF), was presented by deputies from various parliamentary groups and not by the federal Executive.

“That is not an initiative that the head of the Executive has sent. As far as I am aware, it is an initiative presented by federal deputies from the various parliamentary factions, ”he said.

When asked about the lack of consensus even within Morena. López Hernández, highlighted that like any Initiative it has to be discussed; “First it is discussed within the parliamentary groups, then it goes to Commissions, it is discussed in Commissions; If it is approved, then it goes to plenary and there it is discussed and approved or not”.

He also announced that it will be the legislators themselves who will have to decide when they can go to plenary session and approve or reject it.

There is no going back on gender parity

Adán Augusto considered that there is no setback in gender parity

López Hernández also pointed out that it is necessary for deputies, deputies and senators to know the content of the initiative. Despite not knowing the full initiative, the secretary pointed out that does not consider that there is a setback in terms of gender parity.

“I do not know it completely, but I do believe that there is no setback in terms of parity. And I am going to tell you why there is no setback in terms of parity: because that is already constitutionally protected.

He also stated that the initiative does not propose that parity or affirmative action disappear. However, he said that what the minute does raise is limit the operation of the Electoral Tribunal.

In this sense, the head of the Segob opined that with the argument that they are interpretations, in recent years the TEPJF has thrown powers that are not expressly granted by law.

“I do not believe that the constitutional power of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Power of the Federation is being limited. What I do believe is that there can be no suprafacultiesthere can be no faculties for a collegiate body beyond those that are constitutionally indicated”, he sentenced.
