It should be noted that precisely that individuality that I mentioned previously is key to the development of this important component of mental health and well-being, since our past experiences, social interactions, beliefs and personal values can influence significantly and in many ways. Sometimes, they encourage us not to value ourselves enough, since we let ourselves be carried away by our perception, which can negatively influence how we treat ourselves and how we value ourselves.
In general, this type of experiences and stimuli can lead us to be truly self-critical people with an insane desire to achieve what is socially and culturally established as absolute perfection, an issue that definitely leads us to a life of permanent dissatisfaction and a totally distorted and unreal assessment of who we are.
How can we identify if we are not valuing ourselves enough?
Finally, I believe that if we are deeply rooted in this type of factors and aspects that limit our ability to self-value, it would be advisable to work on improving our self-esteem, develop a more positive and realistic view of ourselves, and practice self-compassion, which will allow us to leaving behind all those negative and irrational thoughts that we have been internalizing and that sadly govern and limit our lives. For this reason, if we start working on strengthening self-assessment, we will immerse ourselves in a process of self-discovery, acceptance, personal growth, and continuous improvement.
