“PWe intend to place traditional or roots music in an interactive dialogue with the sounds of the world and the styles or genres of modernity, thus reflecting the multicultural and intercultural reality in which we live in today’s world”, said today to Lusa the director of FIS, Mario Correia.

The person in charge of the Sendim Intercéltico programme, in Miranda do Douro, in the Bragança district, said that relations of cultural proximity with the Leonese and Castilian lands and people, of Spain, with whom Terra de Miranda has a common historical background with long centuries of sharing, due to the geographic location next to the border.

With regard to bands invited by FIS, which have already closed their lineup, the highlight goes to the presence of the Polish band Beltaine (night of August 5th) on the INATEL stage.

“Talking about Polish folk over the last 20 years necessarily goes through what is one of its best and most acclaimed bands, especially thanks to the eclecticism of a proposal for action and musical intervention oscillating between traditional music and contemporary music”, explained Mário Belt.

From the Spanish province of Léon, Sog will be present (night of 5th August), a group devoted to roots music, although its members come from different musical styles (from classical music to jazz, from pop to rock or punk).

“The group’s musical style has matured and today they assert themselves as followers of Celtic folk in permanent dialogue with jazz, rock and reggae, embodied mainly in their own compositions in which the ingredients of traditional music never cease to be very present” , stressed Mário Correia.

Manuel Guimarães and Vítor will be present at Casa da Cultura on August 5, 2023, with improvisations on themes from Trás-os-Montes. ‘Front’ musicians of excellence in improvised music, according to the organization, will address the most genuine traditional repertoire of Trás-os-Montes songs.

Over the two days of the FIS, Tom Hamilton (England), Andrea Callad (Wales), Folk On Crest, from Salamanca (Spain), Lugh Celta from Aragón (Spain), Recanto and Trouxa Mouxa, both from Portugal.
