Senegal detains French-Spanish lawyer Juan Branco accused of calling for insurrection

Dakar, Aug 6 (EFE).- The Senegalese authorities imprisoned this morning the Franco-Spanish lawyer Juan Branco, known in the country for defending the main Senegalese opponent, Ousmane Sonko, after accusing him of having called for the insurrection and endangering the public security.

“(Branco) will be prosecuted for having called for an insurrection, spreading false news and having committed acts suspected of compromising public safety or causing serious disturbances,” a police source who requested anonymity confirmed to the state-run Senegalese Press Agency (APS). .

“He is not being investigated, but an international arrest warrant is being executed,” added the same police source, referring to an order issued on July 14 against the French-Spanish lawyer, three weeks after he filed a lawsuit in France against the Senegalese president, Macky Sall, for the repression of the Police against the anti-government demonstrations.
