Senja turned the script for the Norwegian Rocket League upside down on Thursday, when the team won over AW3. The trio, who were actually supposed to play in the 2nd division in the spring season of the Telialigaen, lost 4-1 against the reigning league champion.

A satisfied Teodor “Tempo” Myklebust had a chat with Gamer.no after the victory was a fact.

– It was a lot of fun to beat them, no doubt about that. So there was quite a good atmosphere after the match, Myklebust said somewhat soberly.

Won the mental battle

Ahead of the match, all signs pointed to AW3 running away with three points. 4 minutes and 49 seconds into the first match of the best of seven, it also seemed to go that way, but then it narrowed.

In just 11 seconds, Senja turned 0-2 into 2-2 and sent the match into extra time. There, “Tempo” and company took just 6 seconds to score the winning goal. In the next match, extra time was also needed, and when “Tempo” pushed “Seeb” into the ball and into the goal, it was clear to see the frustration building up in the AW3 players.

– It definitely helped that we came from behind in the first game and they had that own goal in overtime in the second game, but I think we had a better mentality than them today, Myklebust stated.

AW3 bounced back in game three, but couldn’t stop the fast train Senja in the next two. The latter thus took three important points, after what “Tempo” describes as a mental victory over the opponent.

– Although they managed to take the third game, we managed to keep the upper hand later in the series. Also think we got into their heads after they used ‘quick chat’ to try and frustrate us and we responded by doing the same and won the match in one fell swoop.

Technical trouble for AW3

Tough day at work for “Seeb”.

Sindre Stien/Good Game

Sebastian “Seeb” Falch described the evening as very frustrating. The AW3 captain himself felt that he had a usable day, but that technical problems with his teammates caused problems.

– To put it that way, team play is not quite at its best when two people have problems. This means that you cannot completely trust each other as usual. There will be a lot of hesitation and that two go for the same ball, which then leads to a loss, said Falch.

It remains to be seen whether the boys can clear up the problems before next week’s big game against Mustu Fluck. As for Senja, Nidaros awaits next Thursday, and “Tempo” believes there is still room for improvement in the team.

– My teammates definitely played much better than I did today. If I also get back on top form, I think that winning the remaining matches is not inconceivable.

Three on top

Otherwise, Thursday served several exciting Rocket League matches in the Telialigaen. Among other things, Playwell dished out a so-called “reverse sweep” – where the team turned 0-3 to win 4-3 – over Nidaros.

Major also secured a 4-3 victory over Domino, and is now well placed towards the top of the table with its six points. At the very top we find Mustu Fluck, who played against Horizon. Rotaryon holds on to second place after its victory over Fact.

You can follow Rocket League in Telialigaen every Thursday. The next round will be held on 16 February, and we will return with the broadcasting schedule as it becomes ready.
