BFMTV INFO – Isabelle Balkany invokes in particular her state of health, basing her request on a medical expertise carried out last year.

Never imprisoned so far, Isabelle Balkany she could not spend a single night behind bars. Sentenced this Monday to three and a half years in prison for “tax evasion” and “laundering”the wife of Patrick Balkany has officially requested a suspension of his sentence to justice, learned, this Thursday, BFMTV from concordant sources.

This request must be examined by a sentencing judge of the court of Evreux (Eure) on January 20, confirmed the prosecution.

Medical reasons

According to our information, the former elected representative of Levallois-Perret bases her request on a medical expertise carried out last year and the results of which were recently communicated to the courts.

On February 3, 2022, Isabelle Balkany had made a suicide attempt in her residence in Giverny, when justice had just removed the electronic bracelet from which she benefited, threatening her with immediate imprisonment.

Hospitalized for several months, she ended up revealing, in June, that she had lung cancer, while her husband Patrick had been placed in detention in Fleury-Merogis prison.

“We indeed filed a request for suspension of sentence a few months ago”, confirms to BFMTV Pierre-Olivier Sur, Isabelle Balkany’s lawyer. “But we had to wait for the Court of Appeal to rule on the ‘money laundering’ case for it to be examined.”

Another trial to come

On Monday, the Paris Court of Appeal ordered a total confusion of the sanctions imposed on the Balkanys in the two files of “tax fraud” and “money laundering”, setting the sentence at four and a half years in prison for Patrick and at three and a half for Isabelle.

In addition, the court also ordered them to pay 400,000 euros in damages to the State and ordered the confiscation of the usufruct of the Cossy mill where they currently reside.

On January 20, Isabelle Balkany will therefore officially request that her sentence be suspended. The decision of the court of Evreux should be put under advisement.

Anyway, the former first deputy (LR) at the town hall of Levallois-Perret and her husband have not finished with justice. On April 4, they are to be tried before the Nanterre court, in the Hauts-de-Seine, for having broadcast a sexual photomontage of one of their political opponents.
